Stuck in the sand

What are the impacts of unregulated shipbreaking practices on workers and the environment? Why are only a small fraction of end-of-life ships handled in a safe and clean manner, with 90% of the global fleet still broken down on the beaches of India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh? We try to answer these questions in conversation with a leading Bangladeshi advocate for environmental justice.

Tech for change

Can new, innovative technologies drive a shift towards ethical circularity practices? We invite four forward-thinking companies to showcase solutions, including innovative cutting techniques, state-of-the-art waste handling procedures, and clean steel breakthrough technologies aimed at achieving a zero-carbon steel-making process that will change the way of thinking about ship recycling. Additional companies will be given the opportunity to pitch their innovative ideas in a quick and interactive format, including digital IHMs, the handling of mercury and NORM, and more, followed by a panel debate reflecting on opportunities provided by new technologies and how to overcome existing bottlenecks for their wider use.
